The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Friday was a bright 83-57-115. The TSX Venture Exchange regained 10 points to 799 while polished diamond prices edged downward. Dominion Diamond Corp. (DDC) continued a modest recovery, gaining 22 cents to $11.69 on 320,000 shares. There is nothing new to account for either the slump or the subsequent rally.
Lukas Lundin and Dr. William Lamb's Lucara Diamond Corp. (LUC), up five cents to $2.79 on 1.03 million shares, has completed a second bulk sample of its BK-02 kimberlite in Botswana. The company recovered 309.79 carats of diamonds from 5,021 tonnes of kimberlite, or 6.2 carats per hundred tonnes. The largest diamond, which weighed 4.56 carats, was an octahedral stone unfortunately coloured whitish-grey. The sample included five gems weighing at least two carats and 17 more that topped one carat. Based on the numbers, the one-carat diamonds likely accounted for about 12 per cent of the parcel weight.
