The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Friday was a rousing 97-47-115. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 10 points to 836 while polished diamond prices edged lower. Dominion Diamond Corp. (DDC) gained 12 cents to $13.73 on 185,000 shares. The stock, $10.46 in September, has been edging higher this year without benefit of news.

Grenville Thomas and Ken Armstrong's North Arrow Minerals Inc. (NAR), unchanged at 20 cents on 1,000 shares, has received some encouraging till sampling results from its Mel project on Melville peninsula in central Nunavut. The company collected 111 samples in the summer program, in an area just up ice from the interpreted head of two or three kimberlite indicator trains on the property. Most of the samples were barren, which was the desired result as North Arrow now thinks it has the source of those mineral swaths narrowed down to a workable area.

As well, one of the tests produced over 1,200 indicator mineral grains per 20 kilograms of till. That is an order of magnitude more than any of its previous tests and it suggests a nearby kimberlite. Mr. Armstrong, president and chief executive officer, say the indicator trains are now "very well defined," but he says the next step will be yet more prospecting and geophysical surveying. Drilling will apparently have to wait unto the company gets the land use permits needed to complete a drill program on the property. (Getting permits can take time in Canada's North, but North Arrow is a veteran at dealing with the Northern bureaucrats.)
