The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Wednesday was a weak 61-88-109. The TSX Venture Exchange fell one point to 825 while polished diamond prices were flat. Jim Greig's Crystal Exploration Inc. (CEI) jumped four cents to 14 cents on 1.49 million shares. There was no news to account for the spike in interest. Crystal is touting new looks at some old diamond plays in Nunavut.

Matt Manson's Stornoway Diamond Corp. (SWY), down 3.5 cents to 85 cents on 1.62 million shares, is reining in its 2017 revenue forecast for its Renard diamond mine in Quebec. The company, which had modelled its diamond value at $155 (U.S.) per carat in its feasibility study, now expects the mine will average between $100 (U.S.) and $132 (U.S.) per carat this year. Mr. Manson, president and chief executive officer, says the lower range is partly the result of the currently lower prices for smaller and certain lower-quality diamond categories. Those prices have been in decline for some time, but the situation was exacerbated last fall when India made moves that temporarily (one hopes) destabilized its currency, disrupting the Indian market for rough. (Many of the small and lower-quality diamonds go to Indian cutters, which is why they are known as "Indian goods.")
