The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Wednesday was a mediocre 73-68-117. The TSX Venture Exchange gained six points to 813 while polished diamond prices fell 0.1 per cent. Glenn Kelly's Orbite Technologies Inc. (ORT) gained one cent to 26 cents on 5.47 million shares. Orbite is still trying to get its high-purity alumina plant on Gaspe peninsula into commercial production. It has produced some, but not at the required purity.

Dr. Stewart Blusson's Archon Minerals Ltd. (ACS: $1.59) is still in a dispute with its joint venture partner, Dominion Diamond Corp. (DDC: $13.16), regarding their Jay project on the Ekati Buffer claims in the Northwest Territories. The dispute centres on work carried out last year on Jay, a large kimberlite just northeast of Diavik and east of Ekati, in the shallow waters of Lac du Sauvage. Neither Dominion nor Dr. Blusson have said much about the disagreement, but it apparently arose from the budget that Dominion laid out a year ago. Dr. Blusson believed that parts of it breached the joint venture agreement, so he said that Archon would not pay its 34.67-per-cent share of the disputed costs. Dominion countered with the usual retort: it would dilute Archon's interest accordingly. This week it did: Dominion now says that Archon's interest has been diluted to 27 per cent. Archon, of course, disagrees.
