The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Tuesday was a mediocre 71-70-121. The TSX Venture Exchange fell fractionally to 794 while polished diamond prices inched higher. Dominion Diamond Corp. (DDC) rebounded 37 cents to $12.92 on 272,000 shares. The company's last news, now a month old, covered its solid, if unspectacular third-quarter profit at Diavik and Ekati.
Matt Manson's Stornoway Diamond Corp. (SWY), up one cent to 97 cents on 681,000 shares, began its second sale of diamonds from its Renard mine in the Otish Mountains of Quebec this week. The sale, which runs from Jan. 9 through Jan. 18, is being handled by the Bonas Group in Antwerp. Stornoway held its first sale in mid-November, nearly two months after its first sale, presumably because of the Christmas holidays. (The company plans to hold its sales on a five-week schedule, the same frequency that Dominion Diamond has maintained for over a decade.)
