The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Friday was a pleasant 75-55-132. The TSX Venture Exchange gained two points to 762 while polished diamond prices edged lower. Ken MacNeill and George Read's stalled diamond promotion, Shore Gold Inc. (SGF), wrapped up another listless year with a one-cent gain to 18 cents on 81,000 shares. Shore missed its end-of-year target for a revised feasibility study of the Star-Orion South project in Saskatchewan, which weary shareholders had hoped would bring some holiday cheer.
Dermot Desmond and Patrick Evans's Mountain Province Diamonds Inc. (MPV) lost 11 cents to $6.72 on 60,000 shares. The company is getting set for its first sale of diamonds from the Gahcho Kue mine in the Northwest Territories. (Gahcho Kue, which has been ramping up since midsummer, is expected to reach commercial production early next year. Mountain Province owns 49 per cent of the mine; De Beers Canada holds the rest.)
