The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Friday was a positive 68-55-142. The TSX Venture Exchange gained four points to 746 while polished diamond prices fell 0.3 per cent. Dermot Desmond and Patrick Evans's Mountain Province Diamonds Inc. (MPV) lost 13 cents to $6.75 on 60,000 shares. The company is now mining diamonds at Gahcho Kue in the Northwest Territories and it will hold its first sale of production in January.
Dominion Diamond Corp. (DDC) lost six cents to $11.75 on 517,000 shares on word that it sold 1.24 million carats worth $107.2-million (U.S.) during its third quarter. That was many more carats than the 795,000 it sold the year before, when the company got $145-million (U.S.) for its smaller parcel. The decline in revenue was mainly the result of a three-month break in production at Ekati resulting from a fire in late June, but it was also caused by Dominion selling a "carry-over of lower average value goods" from both Ekati and Diavik.
