The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Friday was a positive 66-56-145. The TSX Venture Exchange gained four points to 790 while polished diamond prices rose 0.1 per cent. Matt Manson's Stornoway Diamond Corp. (SWY) jumped nine cents to $1.26 on 6.85 million shares as retail investors got word of this week's grand opening of the company's Renard diamond mine in Northern Quebec. The stock hit $1.28 in intraday trading, a five-year high.
Patrick Evans and Dermot Desmond's Kennady Diamonds Inc. (KDI), up one cent to $4.10 on 20,000 shares, has wrapped up its summer drill program at Kennady North, 10 kilometres northeast of Gahcho Kue in the Northwest Territories. It drilled just over 9,561 metres at Kelvin and three of the Faraday kimberlites. That tally surpassed the initial 8,500-metre target and it surpassed the expanded goal of 9,500 metres that the company set following some encouraging intersections along the Faraday pipes. The company had more drilling to do, but it had to pull out its crews ahead of the imminent arrival of the long, dark winter.
