The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Monday was a 67-67-132 draw. The TSX Venture Exchange lost seven points to 708 while polished diamond prices fell 0.5 per cent. Dr. Leon Daniels's Pangolin Diamonds Corp. (PAN) closed unchanged at 17 cents on 470,000 shares. The company has drill targets on its Motloutse and Malatswae diamond projects in Botswana that it intends to test.
Patrick Evans and Dermot Desmond's Mountain Province Diamonds Inc. (MPV), down six cents to $6.17 on 74,000 shares, expects its diamond mine at Gahcho Kue to reach production before the end of September. Mr. Evans, president and chief executive officer, says the company and its co-venturer, De Beers Canada, have "achieved mechanical completion of" -- built -- the primary crusher, and commissioning of the processing plant is nearly 80 per cent complete. Mr. Evans says the specific timing of the start of production will "depend on progress with the remaining commissioning." As well, the Gahcho Kue partners still have earthworks and prestripping to complete, as well as the catch-all "preparations for operational readiness" used to describe the inevitable glitches that crop up.
