The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Monday was a hopeful 81-63-122. The TSX Venture Exchange gained eight points to 702 while polished diamond prices were flat. Eric Friedland's Peregrine Diamonds Ltd. (PGD) had another good day, gaining 2.5 cents to 24 cents on 1.12 million shares. The company updated its resource estimates for Chidliak earlier this year and it is now working on a preliminary economic assessment for the project, based on the CH-6 and CH-7 pipes. The dream sheet is expected late this month.
Leni Keough's Olivut Resources Ltd. (OLV) jumped 6.5 cents to 33 cents on 102,000 shares. Olivut's stock, nine cents in March and barely 15 cents in late May, jumped to 35 cents in intraday trading without any news. The rally is the result of some kind words from a major shareholder and veteran stock promoter, Pierre Lassonde. Mr. Lassonde chatted with Eric King's King World News last week about a few of his favourite companies, and as he is often wont to do he brought up Olivut, a diamond explorer in which he has sunk a few million dollars over the past several years.
