The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Tuesday was a slow 47-40-162 as the TSX Venture Exchange gained three points to 674. Polished diamond prices inched upward. Patrick Evans's Mountain Province Diamonds Inc. (MPV) gained one cent to $4.14 on 874,000 shares, its most active day since mid-2012. Mountain Province is normally a thin trader but it became more active late last year, probably because the company is finally building its long-awaited Gahcho Kue diamond mine. Boris Ziger's Matica Enterprises Inc. (MMJ) closed unchanged at 9.5 cents on 1.12 million shares. Matica wants to grow medical marijuana and so it plans to spin off its exploration plays, including the Grumpy Lizard graphite play in Nevada, to four new companies. It seems an energetic plan, as Matica's combined market value is tiny. Only one of the new companies, Ravenline Exploration Ltd., has a name as yet -- unless one considers the likes of "Spinco3" or "1022608 B.C. Ltd." to be names.
