The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Thursday was a poor 38-56-177. The TSX Venture Exchange rose fractionally to 808 while polished diamond prices jumped 1 per cent. Nicholas Houghton's True North Gems Inc. (TGX) gained one-half cent to 10.5 cents on 130,000 shares. True North has the cash to build a modest seasonal ruby and sapphire mine at Aappaluttoq, on southwestern Greenland. Construction of the $40-million mine could go quickly -- once it actually starts. At last report Mr. Houghton, president and CEO, had "issued the commencement notice" to its Greenland-based partner to "authorize mobilization of equipment and inaugurate construction." Tangible results may not be evident until next year. Paul Gill's Lomiko Metals Inc. (LMR) gained 1.5 cents to 7.5 cents on 1.84 million shares. Lomiko cycles its promotion between exploring for graphite and developing uses for graphene. Investors have been receptive to Mr. Gill's pitch but Lomiko's chart suggests they are not pleased with his progress.
