Toronto businessmen Mark Attanasio and Donata Sferra have won an order in the Supreme Court of British Columbia directing Stockhouse Publishing Ltd. to identify forum user "MadeIn86." A judge has ordered Stockhouse to disclose the user's registered name and contact information. Also covered by the order is the user's IP address, which could allow Mr. Attanasio and Mr. Sferra to track the user through his Internet service provider.

The order comes just over a week after the two men complained to the court about MadeIn86. They said that he was behind a single post that appeared in Stockhouse on June 5, 2017, that was entirely false and defamatory. The post accused them of having sex with their superiors to get ahead. It also called both men "crooked" and said that Mr. Sferra was "deep fryer Slimy."

Details of the case are contained in a petition the men filed at the Vancouver courthouse on June 13, 2017. They identified themselves as the operators of Eight Capital Partners, a broker-dealer that was formerly known as Dundee Capital Partners. The post that they complained of appeared in the Stockhouse form for CBW, which is the symbol for Cannabis Wheaton Corp.

I told you so.

All it takes to get a poster ID is to make an application.

Neither Stockwatch or Stockhouse will defend or make any effort to preserve the privacy of their customers.

Now, the pain begins for the person. First the unmasking and then the tortuous process of litigation, combined with slow but steady news on his or her exposure to liability and of course the all important expenditures that the defendant must endure to lawyers and the courts. It matters little if defamation is proven. The point of this entire action by the plaintiffs is to inflict pain and humiliation on the defendant.

The Plaintiffs have already won this and of course prevented any further effort by the defendant or others to engage in such activity.

Due process, theres nothing like it.

Ouch!

"MadeIn86." could have used a VPN (Virtual Protocol Network) to mask his/her ISP. We haven't had a case in Canada were the VPN was subpoenaed to provide the user's identity. The plot should thicken.

How do you know "we haven't had a case in Canada" ?

just wondering how you would be aware of every case nationwide with respect to such issues.

Meanwhile, I am assuming that this individual is out of his league with these fellows, and with the Canadian courts rather challenged when it comes to freedom of anything.

Like i said on a previous post, This aint the Good ole' USA here.

The flip side of the coin is that if you want to stay under the radar in this country its easy to do.

It helps not to post obviously slanderous and libelous comments online though

LOL

Good luck to all and yes the plot should thicken haha

My case is the opposite, I'm a shareholder advocate and post utilizing my real name. I've had defamatory/libel (IMO criminal) comments made about me at the Stockhouse Orbite Technologies Inc. T.ORT Bullboard subsequent to Orbite filing for creditor protection on April 3, 2017. I launched a Cybercrime complaint with the Montreal Police Force.

Time Will Tell All.

Maybe Mike Caswell or Will Purcell would be interested in thisb matter.

your first problem is that that you are honest

your second problem is that the montreal authorities have been proven to be even more corrupt than the criminals.

your third problem is that the stock watch reporters aren't journalists

they only print news releases and have no understanding of any real issues

reply with your email address i would enjoy communicating with someone in montreal whom is a shareholder advocate. i am mired in a venture company managed by incompetents and as the largest shareholder i am less than pleased and am looking for assistance with someone in that city who may know of these creeps
