WestJet adds Toronto-Myrtle Beach non-stop service

2013-05-02 11:17 ET - News Release

Mr. Chris Avery reports

WESTJET LAUNCHES MYRTLE BEACH SERVICE

WestJet Airlines Ltd. has launched new twice-weekly non-stop service between Toronto and Myrtle Beach, S.C. The first flight leaves Toronto's Pearson International Airport at 9:30 a.m. EDT.

"We are very proud to extend service to another key U.S. destination," said Chris Avery, WestJet vice-president, network planning, alliances and corporate development.

"Myrtle Beach is one of the most popular destinations for Canadian vacationers, with more than 90 kilometres of picturesque beaches, world-class golf and warm southern hospitality," added Mr. Avery. "The baggage capacity of our 737 aircraft is ideal for those travelling with golf clubs and our first checked bag free is popular with leisure travellers. Guests are also able to find a variety of packaged vacations featuring oceanfront resorts, condos and hotels through WestJet Vacations."

"The addition of WestJet's service from Toronto to Myrtle Beach is great news as we are focused on further developing our Canadian air service market," said Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce president and chief executive officer Brad Dean. "WestJet's commitment to the Myrtle Beach area reinforces potential growth of air service for Canadian visitors, and their convenient and frequent service will not only support travel from Toronto but will provide hassle-free connecting service from many other Canadian markets."

Further service expansion began April 29, 2013, when WestJet launched new non-stop daily service between Calgary and Dallas-Fort Worth, offering more connectivity than ever to the United States through WestJet's code-share agreement with American Airlines. Within Canada, WestJet is also increasing the number of flights between Toronto and Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon and Regina, and will introduce new non-stop service between Toronto and Fort McMurray. The airline will also increase to two flights daily from one between Calgary and Los Angeles, and to 11 from seven flights weekly between Toronto and Orlando.

Internationally, WestJet will extend service to Aruba; Liberia, Costa Rica; and Trinidad and Tobago on a year-round basis. The airline will also add one extra flight each week between Toronto and Kingston, and Montego Bay, Jamaica; Varadero, Cuba; St. Maarten; Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic; and Cancun, Mexico. WestJet Vacations' packages will be available on many of these routes.
