Silvercorp Metals Inc. has filed a petition in the Supreme Court of British Columbia looking to interview Vancouver geologist John-Mark Staude. The company claims he wrote a geological report that may be connected to the short-and-distort conspiracy that targeted Silvercorp in August, 2011. The identities of some of those behind the conspiracy remain unknown and Mr. Staude, as the report's author, may be able to "shed light on this issue," the company says.

The B.C. petition comes as part of a defamation case that Silvercorp is pursuing in the Supreme Court of the State of New York against several short-sellers. The company claims that the sellers sent a 14-page letter to the B.C. Securities Commission and others which stated that there was an accounting fraud at Silvercorp. According to the letter, the company had reported 2010 earnings of $66-million in North America, when government filings in China showed a $550,000 loss. (All figures are in U.S. dollars.) Silvercorp said the letter was completely untrue, and was part of a scheme to manipulate the stock downward and profit from the drop in its price.
