PARAMOUNT PICTURES AND SKYDANCE PRODUCTIONS' STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS OPENS STRONG IN IMAX 3D THEATRES, GROSSING $13.6 MILLION DOMESTICALLY; AUDIENCES EMBRACE EARLY IMAX OPENING AND J.J. ABRAMS' USE OF IMAXATRADEMARK CAMERAS
Paramount Pictures and J.J. Abrams's Star Trek Into Darkness has grossed an estimated $13.6-million domestically for the weekend in 336 North American Imax Corp. 3-D theatres. Of the film's 20 highest-grossing domestic engagements since it debuted in North America on Wednesday, May 15, 17 of them featured an Imax screen. In addition, to date, the film has grossed approximately $20-million in Imax theatres worldwide.

The Imax release of Star Trek Into Darkness features approximately 30 minutes of footage filmed with the extremely high-resolution Imax cameras. These specific sequences expand to fill more of the screen exclusively in Imax, delivering unprecedented crispness and clarity and a truly immersive experience for moviegoers.
