CALGARY HANDIBUS CHOOSES GATEKEEPER RUGGED MOBILE VIDEO SYSTEMS TO INCREASE SAFETY AND PROTECT RIDERS

Calgary HandiBus has selected Indigo Sky Capital Corp.'s Gatekeeper Systems Inc. to install Gatekeeper video technology on its bus fleet.

After researching various surveillance system providers, Scott Kirchner, supervisor of employee services of Calgary HandiBus, explains what influenced its decision: "When we did our investigation many service providers had surveillance technologies with a regular hard drive, but Gatekeeper offered a solid-state DVR. We do a lot of pickups in alleys, and operate in extreme hot and cold environments, so we wanted reliable devices. We have been very impressed with the quality of the 504HD DVRs."

Calgary HandiBus delivers highly personalized door-to-door shared-ride service to anyone with permanent or temporary physical and/or developmental disabilities who are unable to use regular transit. Calgary HandiBus's list of requirements included protecting passengers and drivers from harassment, protecting itself from false liability claims, and ensuring drivers are focused exclusively on the road while driving. The safety and comfort of its passengers and drivers is a top priority.

Mr. Kirchner has found that Gatekeeper's total video solution is helping the company achieve its goal of improving safer transportation. In addition to safety, reducing liability is a huge benefit for Calgary HandiBus. "We were dealing with a he said/she said atmosphere. Finding incidents is quick and easy with G4TM incident management software. The technology is also a good learning tool for drivers. Improving driving habits and using the technology for training new hires is an added benefit. I'd say 98 per cent of the time it's there to protect drivers from false claims and lets them keep their eyes on the road," said Mr. Kirchner.

To deliver safer transportation, Calgary HandiBus turned to technologies from Gatekeeper Systems and plans to install Gatekeeper's technologies on all 107 vehicles.
