Carmanah to install EG320 solar lighting in Australia

2012-05-10 13:50 ET - News Release

Mr. Bruce Cousins reports

AUSTRALIAN REGULATOR SELECTS CARMANAH SOLAR LIGHTING

The Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads has certified Carmanah Technologies Corp.'s EG320 outdoor solar lighting system for roadway lighting across the state, and has selected Orion Solar, authorized Carmanah distributor of Australia, as preferred supplier. The selection follows the Queensland government's installation of 10 Carmanah EG320 solar LED (light-emitting diode) outdoor lighting systems earlier this year.

The EG series, launched by Carmanah Technologies last year, was designed to address the growing need for high-performance and reliable off-grid lighting. The EG series eliminates the need to trench cable, a required cost of lighting powered by alternating current, making them the ideal solution for roadways and areas where infrastructure is unavailable or costly to access. Configured specifically for the locations in which they are deployed, EG series systems take advantage of optimal solar insolation values for their installed location which results in a smaller system and further lowered product cost. The combination of high efficiency, high performance, and reduced product and installation costs have contributed to the EG series' growing success in Mexico, Latin America, the Middle East and Australia.

Orion Solar, the Carmanah-authorized distributor of solar-powered outdoor lighting, aviation, marine and traffic products, is an authority on the aviation, mining, marine, road and rail industries of the Australian market. "Australia presents many challenges when considering outdoor lighting including the remoteness of service locations, unreliable grid power and a reliance on generator equipment. At the same time, equipment must be able to withstand the wide range of temperature and environmental extremes. The market is looking for a light that works unabated through any extreme and functions reliably for years. The EG series is the technology that answers these challenges," commented Richard Holliday, general manager, Orion Solar.

"Orion is a long-standing and important partner for us who has done an outstanding job penetrating the market with our technologies," stated Carmanah chief executive officer Bruce Cousins.

Orion Solar is a corporate member of the Illuminating Engineering Society of Australia and New Zealand (IES).

The EG series is also being showcased at 2012 Lightfair International (LFI) in Las Vegas, Nev., from May 9, 2012, to May 11, 2012, at booth No. 5117.
