Chi-X Canada, for the second week in a row, handled more trading volume than Alpha Trading Systems. Chi-X traded an average of 91.4 million shares a day, for 14 per cent of Canadian trading volume, while Alpha handled 70 million shares a day for only 10.8 per cent. TMX Select stepped up to third place with 14.3 million shares a day or 2.2 per cent. Dark pool Match Now followed with 12.3 million shares a day or 1.89 per cent. Pure Trading came fifth place with 11.7 million shares a day or 1.8 per cent. Omega ATS came sixth with 8.3 million shares or 1.2 per cent, and the new Canadian ATS, CX2, handled 94,000 shares a day or 0.01 per cent of volume. Together Canada's ATSs captured 32.1 per cent of volume, leaving the majority, 67.9 per cent, to the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange.
Of securities listed only on the TSX, the exchange handled 58.6 per cent of volume, Chi-X captured 19.9 per cent, while Alpha had 11 per cent and the other ATSs shared the remaining 10.5 per cent.
