SEVILLE, Spain, Sept. 3, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Abengoa (MCE: ABG.B/P SM /NASDAQ: ABGB), the international company that applies innovative technology solutions for sustainability in the energy and environment sectors, has been listed among the top 20 international companies in the construction sector according to the International Contractors annual ranking drawn up and published by the prestigious construction sector magazine, Engineering News-Record (ENR).

The company was awarded its ranking after winning multiple new projects, such as its recent contract in the United Kingdom where Abengoa will construct one of the world's largest biomass plants.

Geographically, Abengoa has had a stable position in Latin America and the Caribbean for the last 47 years with offices in seven countries. The company has risen from fifth to third position among the largest international contractors thanks to the solar projects it has developed -such as the plant currently under construction in the Atacama Desert, which will become part of the largest STE complex in Latin America- as well as various cogeneration plants that it has constructed in Mexico.

Meanwhile in the "Power" category (electrical infrastructures) Abengoa is ranked second.

The company also features highly in other rankings published by ENR, such as the power transmission and solar power lists in which it has been ranked first for the last eight and four years respectively.

The ENR annual ranking collates data from the top 225 international engineering and construction contractors, based on gross revenues.

ENR, owned by The McGraw-Hill Companies, is one of the most prestigious technical magazines in the sector, providing important and relevant information, news and analysis for specialists in the sector. It also covers financial, legal and safety issues related to the environment and corporate management as well as labor issues associated with the construction industry.

This latest ranking will further consolidate Abengoa's position as an international leader for constructing energy and environmental projects around the world.
