Van Sun says Lionsgate joins Tribeca for video service

2014-10-21 09:33 ET - In the News

The Vancouver Sun reports in its Tuesday edition Lionsgate Entertainment, the studio behind Hunger Games, will start a subscription video service with Tribeca Enterprises. The unbylined item says Tribeca Short List will offer on-line movies made by Lions Gate and outside studios, and will be available in early 2015 for an undisclosed subscription price. The library will focus on art-house films rather than Lionsgate hits like "The Hunger Games," "The Twilight Saga" and "Divergent." The service will draw from its own library as well as films from other indie studios and producers. Each Tribeca Short List film will also include the filmmaker explaining why each film has been included. Other major networks are launching, or planning to launch, direct-to-consumer offerings that bypass cable and satellite providers. Last week, HBO announced plans to offer movies and original programming via streaming service in 2015. Soon after, CBS launched All Access for $5.99 per month (all figures U.S.). Tribeca is known for the film festival founded by Robert De Niro. Lionsgate shares closed Monday at $30.07, down 10 cents on the New York Stock Exchange.
