Rentrak Announces Official Worldwide Box Office Results for Weekend of December 21, 2014

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Rentrak (NASDAQ: RENT), the leader in precisely measuring movies and TV everywhere, today announced the official worldwide weekend box office estimates for the weekend of Dec. 21, 2014, as compiled by the company's theatrical measurement services.

"Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" impressively generated $105.5 million internationally this weekend and combined with its North American debut boasts a whopping $161.72 million in 60 territories.  Having already opened last week in the international markets, the final installment in "The Hobbit" trilogy has earned $355.6 million to date around the world.  Notably, the Bollywood comedy "P.K." from UTV earned over $22 million this weekend in just 21 international territories and broke into the North American Top 10 in its debut in just 272 locations for a global total of nearly $26 million."
