Kim Nussbaum Named McClatchy Vice President, Advertising; Don Burk Appointed Corporate Director Of Sales

2015-04-27 13:00 ET - News Release

SACRAMENTO, Calif., April 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The McClatchy Company (NYSE: MNI) today appointed two of its local market executives to top corporate advertising positions.

Kim Nussbaum, president and publisher of The Wichita Eagle, has been named McClatchy's vice president for advertising. Don Burk, vice president for advertising at the Star-Telegram in Fort Worth, Texas, has been named corporate director of sales.

Both appointments are effective June 1 and part of a previously announced corporate reorganization to strengthen McClatchy's sales and marketing efforts and accelerate digital revenue growth.

"We couldn't be more pleased to have two accomplished, innovative leaders in-house and ready to assume these important roles," said Pat Talamantes, McClatchy's president and CEO. "Both Kim and Don have contributed to McClatchy's digital transformation and revenue diversification. They are both high-energy people who have great respect among their peers, and I know they'll have even greater impact across the company in these new roles."

Nussbaum, 49, will relocate from Wichita, Kan., to Sacramento. She will work closely with McClatchy's digital sales force, local publishers and ad directors to execute strategic initiatives and grow revenue. She'll also oversee McClatchy's national sales team and help serve the company's largest advertisers.

Nussbaum joined McClatchy and The Wichita Eagle in 2011 from the Abilene Reporter-News, an E.W. Scripps newspaper in Texas where she was also the president and publisher. Prior to being promoted to publisher, she held several senior advertising positions at the paper, including the vice president of sales and marketing, and participated in several E.W. Scripps corporate initiatives to define and shape the future of the company's newspapers, niche products and digital sales efforts. At McClatchy, Nussbaum has similarly participated in several corporate task forces and strategic initiatives.

Burk, 44, will remain in Fort Worth but work closely with each of McClatchy's 28 local media markets to speed their digital transformation and execute sales strategies in the field.

Burk began his newspaper advertising career at the Star-Telegram in 1996, became the advertising director at The Sun News in Myrtle Beach, S.C., in 2004, and rejoined the Star-Telegram in 2006 as retail/national advertising director. He was appointed the paper's top advertising executive in 2012.
