"We always have and always will look to be a leader in the digital space because that's what our student-athletes and fans deserve," said Ryan Craig, director of Digital Media for Duke Athletics. "We're looking forward to providing the greater Duke community with the ability to engage in our history and tradition like never before."

MBA students at Duke University'sFuqua School of Business, in cooperation with SAP and NTT DATA, have developed a groundbreaking visual web application that enables Blue Devil Fans from around the world to interact with the team's historical record books. The powerful in-memory capabilities of SAP HANA allow for the tool to draw almost instantly on decades of Duke Basketball tradition — and perhaps the most complete archive of historical team data in college sports today — dating back to the 1930s. The student team that drove the project explains their vision in this video: "Duke Athletics Scores with SAP HANA."

"SAP HANA is revolutionizing how teams, leagues and venues contextualize information and develop unique insights into creating a richer fan experience, improving a team's performance and increasing efficiencies by managing Big Data in simpler, more innovative way," said Frank Wheeler, global vice president, Strategic Sales, SAP SE. "With the power of SAP HANA, Blue Devil basketball fans, alumni, players, coaches and the sports media will now have ubiquitous access to this information and become more knowledgeable and invested in this storied team and university."

"NTT DATA works with companies around the world to combine analytics and enterprise data to improve real-time business applications, and optimize their businesses," said Jeremy Stierwalt, senior director of Analytics, NTT DATA, Inc. "We are excited to bring that same focus, leveraging our expertise with the newest SAP technologies, including SAP HANA, to create a unique experience for Duke Basketball fans."

Duke Athletics will pioneer version 1.0 of this innovative solution as part of a multi-phase project designed to develop a tool that is "by Duke Fans, for Duke Fans." Insights are also intended to benefit sports media by empowering them to deliver a better-informed commentary. The tool is being debuted for the general public "live" during SAP TechEd && d-code.
