Fordham University's Graduate School of Social Service Furthers its Mission to Train 'Agents of Change' Through a New Online Master of Social Work Program For Inspired Practitioners Across the U.S.

2018-02-20 11:00 ET - News Release

NEW YORK, Feb. 20, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Fordham's Graduate School of Social Service (GSS) is now accepting applications from prospective students across the country for OnlineMSW@Fordham. The rigorous graduate program is currently ranked among the top social work programs in the country by U.S. News & World Report and will feature a newly revised, future-focused curriculum designed to prepare aspiring social work practitioners to deliver responsive services in the 21st century.

"Like many professional industries, the field of social work has evolved significantly and we've modernized our online MSW program to prepare social work professionals for practice in today's challenging social climate while promoting human rights, social justice and social change," said Dean Debra M. McPhee, Ph.D. "More than ever, there is a growing need for passionate, highly-trained professionals to serve and advocate on behalf of vulnerable populations in communities around the country and around the world."

As one of the nation's largest schools of social work, GSS has delivered high-quality graduate social work education for more than 100 years. This new online program incorporates Fordham's long-standing mission and reputation and prepares students with advanced competencies required for integrated professional practice.

The new curriculum is used for the online, on-campus and hybrid social work programs and is designed to prepare aspiring practitioners to deliver responsive services to both individuals and communities across the U.S. Students will be taught a range of master's-level concepts, including culturally responsive, evidence-informed direct practice.

OnlineMSW@Fordham students customize their coursework within four areas of focus: Individuals and Families, Organizations and Community, Evaluation, and Policy Practice and Advocacy. The curriculum provides students with a range of options to tailor their academic experience to meet their professional interests.

The program consists of 66 credits and can be completed in as few as sixteen months. There is also a 33 credit Advanced Standing plan of study for students who currently possess a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW), that can be completed in as few as eight months.

The online platform, powered by 2U, Inc., a global leader in education technology, features live classes and a highly interactive mobile application which allows students and faculty to access course content and engage with peers from anywhere in the world. The course content and live online classes were developed and will be taught by Fordham's distinguished faculty practitioners who conduct cutting-edge research in the field. Students will apply the skills and concepts learned in the classroom at field education sites near their own communities.

The next application deadline is June 25, 2018, and the first cohort of students will begin classes in September 2018. Visit onlinemsw.fordham.edu for additional curriculum information and application requirements or contact an admissions counselor at admissions@onlinemsw.fordham.edu.

The online Master of Social Work program from the Fordham University Graduate School of Social Service is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Fordham University is regionally accredited by the Middle States Association of the Commission on Higher Education.
