$25 Million Energy Savings Performance Contract Awarded to NORESCO for Federal Bureau of Prisons Sites in Illinois and Michigan

2016-10-06 09:00 ET - News Release

WESTBOROUGH, Mass., Oct. 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Two Federal Bureau of Prisons sites will receive energy and water efficiency and capital infrastructure upgrades through an energy savings performance contract (ESPC) with NORESCO: United States Penitentiary (USP) Marion, Illinois, and Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Milan, Michigan. The $25 million ESPC will help the Federal Bureau of Prisons progress toward the energy and water reduction goals set through the federal energy mandates. NORESCO, a national leader in energy efficiency and energy infrastructure solutions, is a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

The ESPC project should reduce water consumption by 33 percent and electricity use by 20 percent at USP Marion and should reduce water consumption by 40 percent and electricity use by 22 percent at FCI Milan. The facility improvements to be implemented under the ESPC are expected to generate more than $1.2 million in annual cost savings. The project is funded entirely through guaranteed savings, requiring no upfront capital investment from the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

"The FCI Milan and USP Marion energy conservation measures demonstrate what can be accomplished with a focused energy and institution team that understands the value of a well-structured ESPC project to modernize facilities and make significant progress toward energy and water reduction goals," said Michael Beccaria, senior vice president and general manager, NORESCO. "The comprehensive project includes upgrading to LED lighting and occupancy controls technologies, transitioning to new state-of the-art building controls, replacing the primary steam and condensate distribution system, and upgrading water fixtures and controls along with new water softening plants and boiler controls. We are honored by a long-standing business relationship with the Federal Bureau of Prisons and are excited to implement this important project."

Since 2003, NORESCO has contracted with the Federal Bureau of Prisons for more than $130 million in building system improvements funded by savings from energy and water reductions.
