Wowio CEO Exemplifies Philanthropy in the New Hollywood

2015-08-03 15:01 ET - News Release

Helms Chairmanship of Hollywood YMCA

HOLLYWOOD, CA / ACCESSWIRE / August 3, 2015 / While Hollywood has long been known for its celebrity excesses and business mogul shenanigans, the new Hollywood is putting on a gentler, kinder face. Moving towards a more charitable and community-based philanthropy, several local entrepreneurs have donated their time to public organizations.

Case in point: Brian Altounian, CEO of Wowio Inc. (OTC:WWIO) takes the helm of the Hollywood YMCA for a 3-year term starting July 1. As Chairman of the Board of Managers, Altounian will lead the charge to build initiatives through the 'Y' aimed at both supporting and strengthening the Hollywood community.

Altounian chose the YMCA as a focus for his philanthropic efforts in part because of their unparalleled ability to reach deep into the community and provide essential, life changing services.

"The 'Y' has an unmatched capacity to enrich individuals' lives and the common good," says Altounian. "And our branch has stood as a safe haven for families and individuals in the Hollywood community for over 100 years. I cannot tell you how thrilled and honored I am to have the opportunity to give back to this vibrant and eclectic community and lead our Board of Managers for the beginning of our next 100 years."

Brian's business acumen is expected to serve him well in his charitable endeavors; as CEO of Wowio he has bridged a wide variety of challenges and hurdled over obstacles to position his company on the forefront of digital media.

Wowio, Inc., is a digital media and technology development company with a patented process and a proprietary mobile ad-delivery platform that will disrupt the eBook distribution landscape by exploiting a previously untapped marketplace: ad-supported eBooks. After a recent recapitalization effort, Wowio will expand their reach as a digital media company focused on producing and distributing content across multiple platforms.

Wowio has built and acquired a number of digital media technologies, platforms and distribution outlets and is focusing its efforts on opportunities to create and monetize ancillary content product lines beyond eBooks and other forms of digital media.

Altounian joined the Hollywood Board in 2009, and has spent the past 4 years serving as Chairman of the Financial Development Committee where he oversaw the Board's fundraising efforts. He is also the Chair of the Hollywood YMCA's "Comedy for a Cause" fundraising event, which is held annually at the "World Famous Laugh Factory" in Hollywood.

His tenure on the Board has also contributed to the branch's annual "Hollywood Sign Run," an iconic event that combines a 5k Run/Walk with an 8 mile run to the famous Hollywood sign. This event launched last year and raises money for programs that support youth, families and seniors in the community.

"We are very happy to have Brian at the helm of our Board," said Ruben Corona, Senior Vice President of Operations, YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles. "He brings an energy and spirit to our organization and to the community that is perfectly suited for the challenges ahead as we expand our Board and increase our presence in Hollywood, a community that expands beyond its geographic borders."

A Southern California native, Altounian received his Bachelor of Arts degree from UCLA and his MBA from Pepperdine University.

"I am excited to have been elected as the new Chairman of the Board of Directors," states Altounian. "My goal over the next 3 years is to attract new members of the Hollywood community to the Board and to the membership which will support youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility."
