Trinity Industries, Inc. (NYSE:TRN) announced today that Stephen W.
Smith, P.E. has been elected a Vice President of the Company.
Mr. Smith joined Trinity in 1976 as Manager of Special Products for
Railcar Engineering. During his early years at Trinity, he led the
startup, recruitment and management of an engineering staff to support
Trinity’s railcar manufacturing businesses, ultimately advancing to
Senior Vice President Engineering for TrinityRail. In 2008, Mr.
Smith was promoted to a corporate position and has served as an
engineering and technical advisor to the Company’s Group Presidents and
corporate officers.

Trinity in 1976,” said Timothy R. Wallace, Trinity’s Chairman, CEO and
President. “I value the many contributions he has made to the Company
throughout his career, helping to advance our technical and engineering
competencies.”
Mr. Smith has served on the Association of American Railroads Tank Car
Committee, the American Railway Car Institute Engineering and Design
Committee, and as Chairman of the Railway Progress Institute Engineering
and Technical Subcommittee. A registered Professional Engineer in the
State of Texas, he holds 22 U.S. patents and several foreign patents.
Mr. Smith currently serves on the Baylor University School of
Engineering and Computer Science Board of Advocates, the SMU Mechanical
Engineering Board for Knowledge, the SMU Civil & Environmental
Engineering Advisory Board, and the Industry Advisory Board for the
National Science Foundation Industry/University Cooperative Research
Center for Laser and Plasma Advanced Manufacturing.
He earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Southern Methodist University
and an M.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.
