KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- (Business Wire)
Regal Entertainment Group (NYSE: RGC), a leading motion picture
exhibitor owning and operating the largest theatre circuit in the United
States, today announced charity aspects of Regal's Summer Movie Express
2013. The annual summer festival provides great family entertainment for
only one dollar, while also raising funds for Will Rogers Institute.
A portion of proceeds from each Summer Movie Express ticket is donated
to the Will Rogers Institute to fund its mission in the areas of medical
research and health education. This fundraiser is another example of
charitable work performed by the Regal Foundation, a non-profit
501(c)(3) charity established by Regal. The foundation also provides
monetary grants to local Boys & Girls Clubs to transport club members to
the Summer Movie Express.
“What a joy it is to have our charity associated with one of the few
programs in the country which affords families and young children a
discounted opportunity to enjoy movies on the big screen during the
summertime,” stated Todd Vradenburg, executive director of the Will
Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation. “All funds raised through
this program will be put to good use with grants to our Will Rogers
Institute partner institutions at hospitals and medical schools, as well
as, grants to health education programs across the country.”
While supplies last, passports will be available with each ticket sold
to kids ‘boarding’ the Summer Movie Express. Each week a child attends a
morning screening, they will receive a stamp on the corresponding page
for that week. After attending eight weeks in a row and collecting the
stamps, the ninth week’s movie is free. This keepsake will also be a
reminder of the fun they had at a participating Regal Cinemas, United
Artists or Edwards Theatre.
“Regal’s Summer Movie Express offers a fantastic activity for children
and parents to enjoy together while raising funds for a great charity,”
stated Ken Thewes, chief marketing officer for Regal Entertainment
Group. "Over the past fifteen years, Regal has contributed more than $20
million to the Will Rogers Institute for their programs which save lives
and help so many people.”
Since 1991, Regal has hosted special summertime entertainment for
families to enjoy and to foster a love of moviegoing in each new
generation. During this 9-week festival, more than 300 Regal
Entertainment Group theatres will offer selected G or PG rated movies
for only a dollar. On Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, two featured films
will be shown each day at 10:00 at the participating theatres.
