NEW YORK -- (Business Wire)
On Saturday, June 1, Time Warner Cable’s On Stage Across America takes
center stage with contributions from Broadway’s beloved magazine –Playbill,
an internationally known trademark and symbol of the arts since 1884. On
Stage Across America, a new monthly 30-minute program
about theater within the TWC footprint across the country, will include Playbill editor
Blake Ross as a co-host alongside NY1 theater reporter Frank DiLella.
The June episode will feature interviews with some of the 2013 TONY
nominees, Broadway star turned screen actor Aaron Tveit, and a story on
regional high school musical theater competitions.
Every month On Stage Across America will feature
stories on Broadway shows, national tours, regional theater and high
school drama programs. TWC’s new show is modeled after On Stage,
NY1’s widely successful 15-year running theatre program that debuted in
May of 1998. Helmed by reporter Frank DiLella, On Stage Across
America will continue the tradition of in-depth interviews with
performers, writers, producers, and directors as well as the latest
backstage theater scoop from across the country. In addition, every show
will include a list of local theater events from each Time Warner Cable
market.
Playbill segments will feature high school, college and amateur
productions using Playbill’s new PlaybillVIP (playbillvip.com)
tool that allows for these productions to make their own Playbill
magazine and share it virtually or distribute it in their theater—just
like on Broadway.
“15 years ago we discovered and fulfilled a mission here in New York,
and now it’s time to get our act together and take it on the road”, said
Tom Farkas, Director Local Programming, Time Warner Cable.
"We are excited to be able to utilize all of our local programming
resources from across the country to not only distribute this program
but also to generate great theater content each and every month. This
show is set to be a great addition to our slate of nationally
distributed local programming," said Jeremy Bitz, VP of Local
Programming and New Media, Time Warner Cable.
“Playbill has been honored to serve the theatre community for close to
130 years.
Over the past 20 years, that reach has extended with Playbill’s
ever-growing digital footprint, which includes six web and mobile sites
and counting. We are thrilled to expand our reach even further to
television with this Time Warner Cable partnership,” said Philip Birsh,
President and Publisher of Playbill.
On Stage Across America will be available the first Saturday of
every month on local Time Warner Cable news channels across the country
and www.ny1.com/onstage.com.
The program will also be available on local On Demand channels in Time
Warner Cable markets.
