SAN FRANCISCO -- (Business Wire)

Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) today announced the appointment of Jon Franke, Vice President, Generation Technical Services and the promotion of Scott Sanford to Vice President, Customer Operations.

Franke will report to Ed Halpin, Senior Vice President, Generation and Chief Nuclear Officer. Sanford, who has been serving as Senior Director, Customer Service Operations and Support, will report to Laurie Giammona, Senior Vice President and Chief Customer Officer. Franke and Sanford were elected as officers by the Pacific Gas and Electric Company Board of Directors.

“Jon and Scott bring deep functional expertise and leadership experience to their new roles. We are pleased to have the benefit of their capabilities as we work to provide our customers with energy that is safe, reliable, affordable and clean,” said PG&E’s Geisha Williams. Williams is President, Electric. She will assume a new role as CEO and President of PG&E Corporation on March 1.

In his new position at PG&E, effective January 23, 2017, Franke will be responsible for leading functions in PG&E’s Generation line of business related to technical, strategic and project support.

Franke brings to PG&E more than 30 years of nuclear industry experience, obtained while working in positions of increasing levels of responsibility in the U.S. Navy, and at Carolina Power and Light, Progress Energy, Duke Energy, PPL Corporation and Talen Energy. As an officer in the U.S. Navy, Franke served in several nuclear power and fleet assignments, and retired with the rank of Lieutenant Commander.

He served in several leadership positions at Brunswick Nuclear Plant before becoming the plant general manager, and later vice president, at Crystal River Nuclear Plant. He most recently served as vice president of Susquehanna Nuclear Plant where he was responsible for all aspects of safe, reliable and efficient nuclear plant operation, design and maintenance.

Franke is a 1985 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and holds a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering. He also holds a master of science in mechanical engineering from the University of Maryland, and a master of business administration from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

Sanford joined PG&E in 2012 and has more than two decades of experience with increasing levels of responsibility in the customer service sector with companies including Comcast and AT&T Wireless (and several predecessor companies). For multiple companies, Sanford has led large scale workforces across multiple locations and states while delivering increased customer satisfaction. He replaces Al Torres who is retiring with more than 30 years of service in PG&E’s Electric Operations and Customer Care organizations.

As Vice President, Customer Operations, Sanford will lead the organization that spans the entire “meter to cash” process with responsibilities including meter testing, installation, and maintenance; customer billing, payment processing, credit and collections; and oversight of the customer privacy policy.

Sanford holds a bachelor's degree from the University of South Dakota and master of business administration from Regis University.
