New Retirement Planning Education Campaign Offers Tools, Resources for Advisors and Their Clients

Following the successful “It Pays to Delay Social Security” campaign, Symetra Life Insurance Company today launched a new retirement planning education effort directed to financial advisors and their clients centered on the effects of rising interest rates. The new campaign asks, "If Interest Rates Hike, Are You On the Right Path?"

“Many clients have fled to the perceived safety of bond funds in recent years. However, they may not understand how the value of these funds may be affected by rising interest rates,” said Rich LaVoice, Symetra executive vice president, Retirement Sales and Distribution. “Our campaign aims to help advisors inform clients of potential risks and how fixed deferred and fixed indexed annuities may help stabilize and complement a retirement savings portfolio.”

The spring-summer campaign features a dedicated, public-facing website, www.symetra.com/pathtostability. The site provides links to a variety of resources — including presentations, related articles from respected industry experts and organizations and a Symetra-produced YouTube video series — focusing on these monthly themes:

• "Don't Follow the Herd" (May) — Discusses the recent popularity of bond funds and the risk of market timing.
• "Rising Rates Won't Get You Down" (June) — Explores how a rise in interest rates can negatively affect bond funds.
• "Getting Back to Even" (July) — Explains why it is important for clients to enact a strategy now, rather than waiting for losses to occur.
