MINNEAPOLIS -- (Business Wire)
Ameriprise Financial (NYSE: AMP) today announced grants of more than
$1.6 million to nonprofits that improve the lives and well-being of
people nationwide. In the first of two grant cycles for 2014, the
company awarded funding to economic, social and cultural enrichment
programs benefitting thousands of individuals. A $500,000 grant will go
to Feeding America®, the nation’s leading hunger-relief
organization, as part of the company’s ongoing commitment to help solve
hunger in America.
“These programs make a meaningful difference to people. They provide
access to vital services and cultural activities that promote strong
families and neighborhoods,” said Brian Pietsch, head of community
relations at Ameriprise. “Our employees and advisors volunteer their
time and talent to these important causes, and we’re pleased to add our
financial support to building healthy, vibrant communities.”
Highlights of the grants cycle include donations to:
- The Shakespeare Theatre Company, which stages nearly three
weeks of full-scale performances of Shakespeare for the Washington,
D.C. community each year. The donation from Ameriprise will subsidize
the Shakespeare Theatre ‘Free for All’ program, the community's only
free, full-scale theatre production in D.C., offering access to
quality theatre entertainment through its innovative ticket
distribution system.
- RESOURCE, a multi-service agency providing job search and
placement resources, training and education programs, and chemical and
mental health services throughout the Minneapolis-St. Paul area and in
St. Cloud, Minn. A grant from Ameriprise will support training and
wage advancement services specifically assisting single, working
mothers to increase their incomes and avoid welfare dependency.
- The YWCA Green Bay - De Pere, Wisconsin’s ‘Women's Economic
Empowerment Center’, which offers vocational training and work
readiness programs to women pursuing economic and family stability.
Financial assistance from Ameriprise will provide childcare services
to program participants. Susan Rosin, an Ameriprise senior director of
human resources, serves as a board member of the organization.
Ameriprise awards grants to local nonprofits twice annually under its
three funding platforms: meeting basic needs, supporting community
vitality and volunteer-driven causes. Grant guidelines are available on
our website.
In addition to grantmaking, Ameriprise supports a diverse network of
more than 5,000 nonprofits through employee giving campaigns, gift
matching and a robust volunteer program. The company is committed to
alleviating domestic hunger through our partnership with Feeding
America. Since 2009, with support from employees and advisors,
Ameriprise has provided 34 million meals and over 100,000 volunteer
hours to hunger-relief efforts across the country.
