PG&E RECOGNIZED BY THE 2015 LATINA STYLE 50 REPORT

Fifth Time Utility Recognized as One of the Best Companies for Latinas to Work

For the fifth time, Pacific Gas and Electric Co. (PG&E) was recognized as one of the best companies for Latinas to work for in the United States by LATINA Style Magazine. This was the 18th annual LATINA Style 50 Report, considered the most respected evaluation of corporate America’s policies and opportunities for Latinas in the workplace.

Companies acknowledged in the report were evaluated on matters LATINA Style Magazine readers identified as most important to them in the workplace. Principal areas of review included the number of Latina executives, retention, mentoring, educational opportunities, alternative work policies, employee benefits, women’s issues, job retraining, affinity groups and Hispanic relations.

“Creating a diverse and inclusive workforce begins with giving future generations the right opportunities to learn and succeed. PG&E’s focus on STEM education – Science, Technology, Engineering and Math – is one of the most important things we do to equip our children to excel in tomorrow’s workforce, and it’s important to me personally, as a Latina engineer,” said Geisha Williams, president, PG&E Electric Operations.

“An inclusive culture and diverse labor force helps provide an environment that encourages everyone to do their very best work. Our employees, who reflect the diversity of our customers, are driven to meet the needs of the communities we serve and live in. We’re proud to have Latinas in key positions to help us in working together to build a better California,” said Laura Butler, PG&E vice president of talent management and chief diversity officer.

As of Dec. 31, 2014, Latinas comprise 5.1 percent (1,128) of PG&E’s total employees. The number of Latina employees at PG&E has steadily increased over the last five years. As of Dec. 31, 2014, Latinas account for 18.2 percent of PG&E’s female employees. This is an increase of nearly 2 percent from 2010 (16.7, 932).

Latinas play a major role in the utility’s daily operations. Besides Williams, other prominent Latinas at PG&E include Laurie Giammona, who has been senior vice president and chief customer officer since 2014.

PG&E’s Latino Employee Resource Group (ERG) was founded in 1983 as the Hispanic Employees Association. After starting with a small group of employees, membership has grown to nearly 700 with seven chapters throughout the utility’s service area. This year, the Latino ERG chapters awarded $60,000 in college scholarships to students.

The 2015 LATINA Style 50 Report accolade marks the fifth straight year, ninth overall, PG&E has been recognized by the publication. Besides this year, PG&E was named as one of the LATINA Style 50 companies in 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2011. In addition, the utility received honorable mention from the report in 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2014.

The LATINA Style 50 companies will be recognized next February during LATINA Style’s Diversity Leaders and Awards Conference in Washington, D.C.
