Sprint
(NYSE:S) plans to expand its presence and investment in the New England
Region with the addition of more than 450 jobs and the opening of more
than 60 new retail stores across the area over the next 18 months.
Stores are slated to begin opening this summer throughout Connecticut,
Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Upstate New York.

The company has also made substantial network investments in markets
such as Boston, Buffalo, N.Y., Northern Connecticut, Providence, R.I.
and Rochester, N.Y. where more than 630 cell sites have been upgraded
with the addition of 800 MHz, 2.5 GHz, LTE technology, HD Voice, and
Carrier Aggregation. All of these upgrades have significantly improved
the overall performance of video and other bandwidth-intensive
applications throughout the Region, and at specific venues such as
Gillette Stadium and Fenway Park. Additionally, Sprint added 2.5 LTE at
the new ERA stadium in Buffalo for the Bills.
Sprint’s New England Region is headquartered in Burlington, Mass., and
currently employs approximately 650 people across the area. Through its
local presence, Sprint will continue to improve customer service,
enhance the network, and make a difference across the region by
collaborating with community organizations and finding ways to give back
locally through programs like the 1MillionProject
which helps to close the ‘homework gap’ for students in New England and
across the country. In January, the company provided free mobile devices
and wireless connectivity to 500
students at Brockton High School (Mass.) and 250
students in the Providence Public School District (Rhode Island).
Quotes
“More stores, in more towns and cities across the region means we’ll be
able to better serve our existing customers as well as attract new
wireless customers,” said Gabriel Torres, Sprint President, for the New
England Region. “We’re putting a stake in the ground with continued
investment in this region so our customers can have both a great
shopping experience and network experience.”
“We’ve been upgrading the network and deploying new technology on our
cell sites across New England because Sprint customers in markets like
Boston and Providence have increased their wireless data usage by more
than 800 percent over the last five years,” said Mark Walker, Sprint
Regional Vice President for Network. “The strong demand for wireless
means we’ll continue to upgrade our network and deploy new technology
across the region to increase capacity and coverage.”
