Economic Development enhanced by new warehouse club
MOORHEAD, Minn. -- (Business Wire)
Sam’s Club will open its new Moorhead club at 2800 27th
Avenue South following an 8 a.m. Grand Opening ceremony Thursday, April
3, adding jobs and a preferred member shopping experience to the region.
The membership warehouse club will give residents and small business
owners the opportunity to access incredible savings on quality products,
including products made locally.
“The Moorhead Sam’s Club will offer exciting merchandise that residents
cannot find elsewhere,” said local Sam’s Club Manager Leah Roiko. “We
have created a club tailored to the needs of this community and cannot
wait to welcome our neighbors in.”
Grand Opening ceremony features local officials, special events and
offerings
Mayor Del Rae Williams will be among those participating in the grand
opening ceremony. Additionally, City of Moorhead Business Development &
Retention Manager, Matt Maslowski, along with city council members and
chamber ambassadors will be participating in a ribbon cutting ceremony.
The Dilworth VFW Post 1225 will be leading the posting of the colors.
Free health screenings, open to members and the public, will be given
opening day from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and April 4 and 5 from 10 a.m. to
4 p.m. to assess cholesterol, blood pressure, vision, hearing and a
variety of other wellness areas.
Former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Daunte
Culpepper will be on-hand during grand opening day from 10 a.m. to
noon to sign autographs and visit with fans. A three-time Pro Bowl
selection with the Vikings, Culpepper had a historic 2004 season in
which he set a single-season record for the most total yardage by a
quarterback in NFL history.
Also during the Grand Opening, Sam’s Club will showcase a variety of
special events inside the club including local favorites North
Prairie Signature Summer Sausage and Bellatoria
Pizza.
Quality products help small businesses and busy families
Sam’s Club is bringing a unique, shopper-friendly experience to
Moorhead. Busy families can rely on fresh
produce, quality
meats and home meal
solutions, while office
supplies, vending machine snacks and paper
goods prepare small business members for success. Other benefits
for small business owners include early shopping hours, personal
shopping through Click
‘n’ Pull, truck-load savings and access to quality items most often
used by foodservice businesses, restaurant
owners and caterers. Click ‘n’ Pull provides an innovative way for
members to save time by using SamsClub.com to select items to be picked
up at the club.
Measuring approximately 136,000 square feet, the new club will feature a
variety of members-only amenities, including a fresh bakery, a tire
and battery center, a café and a fuel station.
A number of health and wellness services are also available. The Sam’s
Club Pharmacy,
open to both members and the public, features many $4 and $10 generic
prescriptions, as well as extraordinary savings on branded
prescriptions. In addition to everyday low prices, the Optical
Center offers $40 off each additional pair of regularly priced
prescription eyeglasses with the purchase of a complete pair of
eyeglasses at regular price. Lastly, at the Hearing
Aid Center, premium technology in hearing aids and personal
listening devices is available from a certified audiologist.
Another benefit open to both members and the public will be the liquor
department, available via its own entrance.
New club brings 180 new jobs to community, $40,000 in local grants
To staff the new Moorhead club, Sam’s Club has hired 180 new associates.
Sam’s Club currently employs more than 2,000 people in Minnesota.
“We’re thrilled to have built an amazing team of associates to serve
this community,” said Roiko. “This is a group of people committed to
providing our members the best shopping experience, and to giving back
to our neighbors every chance we get.”
In that spirit of giving back, Sam’s Club has selected several local
non-profit organizations to benefit from special grants totaling $40,000
as part of the Grand Opening celebration, including the Moorhead Youth
Hockey Association, Dorothy Day, Churches United for the Homeless,
Soroptimist International of Moorhead, Creative Care for Reaching
Independence, Moorhead Fire and Rescue, The Arts Partnership, and The
Social Connextion.
“The arrival of Sam’s Club will be a welcome addition to Moorhead, even
beyond the economic impact they will bring to our community. Well before
the opening of their store, they showed their dedication to our
community through a partnership with our local youth hockey
association,” said Layne Hanson, President of the MYHA Board of
Directors. “We are extremely excited about our partnership with Sam’s
Club, and the value that they will bring to the Moorhead community for
years to come.”
