RICHMOND, Va. -- (Business Wire)

The City of Virginia Beach Treasurer’s Office is pleased to announce the launch of the new VBePay.com Online Payment Portal. This new, mobile-optimized bill presentment and payment solution simplifies the user experience by enabling secure payment and tracking of various types of bills online, all in a single convenient location. Citizens can view and pay their bills online, 24/7, and receive email notifications when bills are available.

“We continually look for opportunities to improve our citizens’ experience with the City and we are very excited to be doing just that through this new online payment portal, said Rickie L. Richards, Chief Deputy Treasurer, City of Virginia Beach. “Virginia Interactive couldn’t have been easier to work with and we anticipate even greater success as we continue to work with them to incorporate additional features and payment types into the portal.”

Virginia Beach partnered with Virginia Interactive to implement the service in a phased rollout starting with personal property tax payments in August 2014, followed by real estate tax payments in October, and parking ticket payments in early December. The new service provides a single convenient location where citizens can create an online user account, search and associate their various bills, and enroll to receive electronic billing and reminders via email. The first phase of the project was designed, developed, and ready for testing in less than 30 days with over 1,600 customers registered to use the service making over 6,600 payments in the first two weeks. The service is scalable and the City is already planning to add additional payment types and new enhancements in the near future.

The portal was designed to keep pace with changing social habits, shifting demographics, evolving citizen demands and emerging technologies. Additional key features include:

  • Ability to create a secure user account for facilitating future transactions
  • Enrollment for email notifications and e-billing
  • View billing and payment history for each account
  • Enable users to update billing address and phone number
  • One-time payments for citizens choosing not to establish a user account
  • Shopping cart – pay multiple bills together with a single transaction
  • Secure, credit card and e-check payment options
  • Robust administrative and reporting tools for the City

The profile-based access to the public interface contributes to a highly usable citizen experience, enabling the user to enter, review and verify submissions without having to double key common data. The new mobile friendly layout creates a natural Web experience with less clutter and increased information delivery. Additionally, as more customers adopt e-billing and pay online, the Treasurer’s Office will enjoy reduced manual payment processing costs, saving valuable time and resources.
