Nebraska Businesses Now Have Better Access to Employee Driver Records

2014-10-27 09:50 ET - News Release

New online monitoring system provides alerts to changes in driver records

LINCOLN, Neb. -- (Business Wire)

If you manage a company that employs drivers of company owned vehicles, you know the responsibility and liability involved. The Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) just made it easier for you to know if your drivers have any new convictions, accidents, or withdrawals on their Nebraska driver history record.

“This new method of monitoring employee driver records is a great value to employers who are responsible for reporting to their insurance company information on their drivers,” says Rhonda Lahm, Director of the Department of Motor Vehicles. “In addition, this program has the potential to prevent an incident which could be detrimental to both businesses and the employees.”

The Nebraska DMV has been providing a method of watching driver records for years, but it requires the customer to have an internal system to send the requests and process the data. This new system is available to anyone with internet access on any device, a Nebraska.gov User Subscription, and who can comply with the DMV Uniform Motor Vehicle Records Disclosure Act.

Nick Ryan of Allstate Insurance company helped explain the value of this new service. “In Nebraska, employers are responsible to report driver record changes to their insurance company for employees that drive company vehicles. This new online monitoring system will allow employers to do that without relying on the employee. Not only does it help the business, but it helps the employee from any further issue with their employment and driving record.”

Each record set up to be monitored costs $0.06 per month and if a change from the previous month is detected, a $3 fee per record is charged, per Nebraska statute.
