MONTPELIER, Vt. -- (Business Wire)
Vermont
Information Consortium (VIC), the eGovernment partner for the State
of Vermont, announced this week the launch of their 80th
no-cost website for the state: www.floodready.vermont.gov.
A joint effort between VIC, the state’s Agency of Natural Resources, and
the Department of Innovation and Information, the website is hosted in
VIC’s content management system, which also hosts 79 other state
government websites, including those for the Departments of Motor
Vehicles, Human Resources, Children & Families, and the Governor.
“We are excited about the launch of this valuable public service website
and reaching the important milestone of 80 government websites launched
through our partnership with the state,” said Jamie Gage, general
manager of VIC. “Our goal is to continue to work together with our
partners to make government more accessible and efficient for everyone.”
Built at no cost to the agency through VIC’s unique self-funded model,
the Flood Ready site provides one central online resource for
flood-related information, and guidance on what to do to better prepare
for natural disasters. Ever since Hurricane Irene in 2011, town
officials all over the state have worked with state government leaders
to increase the resilience of their communities, and the new website is
the culmination of that work. On the site, Vermonters will also find
tips for developing in safe places, watershed protection and emergency
guidance, comprehensive maps, reporting tools, and funding resources
tailored to Vermont town officials.
“The new website is a treasure trove of information for Vermont
communities, showing how they can get a handle on their risks and find
funding to do good mitigation projects,” said David Mears, commissioner
of the Department of Environmental Conservation. “It also features
stories from communities that are protecting their floodplains, because
they know that protecting those natural assets is by far the most
inexpensive and effective way to manage their risks.”
