SALT LAKE CITY -- (Business Wire)
The Utah Department of Technology Services announced two Utah.Gov
applications were recently recognized with government industry awards.
The awards reflect the state’s dedication to providing useful services
to the residents of Utah. Utah’s Fiscal Note System was chosen as one of
10 awards nationwide for Outstanding Information Technology Achievement
in Government, and the Utah Hunting and Fishing Mobile Application was
awarded for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Information
Technology.
“We are extremely grateful to be recognized by such prestigious
organizations," said Mark VanOrden, Chief Information Officer, Utah
Department of Technology Services. "We strive to provide the very best
technology for the residents of Utah and it helps to see efforts
rewarded.”
The Awards Committee of the National Association of State Chief
Information Officers recently completed its review of nominations for
the 2015 State IT Recognition Awards and Utah Hunting and Fishing was
one of four finalists selected for Outstanding Achievement in the Field
of Information Technology in the Information Communications Technology
(ICT) Innovations category.
Utah Hunting and Fishing is the mobile resource for wildlife events,
licenses, permits, information, and for outdoor enthusiasts to
communicate with the DWR. Hunters and anglers can download all current
valid licenses and new licenses to their mobile device and display them
for game wardens. From the application, users can view walk-in-access
properties, report poachers, and check shooting hours. The application
helps sportsmen identify wildlife, waterfowl, and fish species found in
Utah.
“When organizations from within government industry identify the
innovative solutions of our state agencies and partners,” said VanOrden,
“It is validation of the superior collaborative work created by the
technology professionals in the state of Utah.”
Utah’s Fiscal Note Agency Response System was also chosen to receive one
of 10 awards from Government Computer News (GCN) for Outstanding
Information Technology Achievement in Government. The GCN Awards
recognize outstanding IT achievement in government and the degree to
which a project has transformed an agency's ability to operate more
efficiently, or serve the public more effectively.
The Utah Legislature’s Fiscal Note System automatically notifies
agencies when the Legislature proposes a bill that changes laws
applicable to that agency. It allows the agency to quickly review the
bill and indicate whether or not the bill has a financial impact.
