NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- (Business Wire)
The Tennessee State Board of Education launched a standards review
application to collect public feedback on Tennessee’s third through 12th
grade science standards. The science standards review, https://apps.tn.gov/tcas,
comes after the highly successful English language arts and mathematics
standards application last fall, which received over 131,000 reviews
from citizens.
The science standards set grade-specific goals that exemplify what
students are expected to know and be able to do by the end of a given
grade or course. The application was developed to help maintain a highly
transparent and comprehensive review process. A committee of Tennessee
science educators throughout the year developed the science standards.
Once the data has been collected from the public, it will be aggregated
and reviewed by educators to revise. Standards will be posted for a
second round of review in 2016.
“We are excited to open the science standards review process in order to
gather valuable stakeholder feedback,” said Sara Heyburn, Executive
Director of the Tennessee State Board of Education.
The revised standards will be reviewed by a Standards Recommendation
Committee, appointed by the Governor, Lt. Governor, and Speaker of the
House, which will then propose the changes to the State Board of
Education in July 2016. The revised standards will be implemented in the
2018-19 school year.
The Tennessee
Standards Education Review Application was designed and developed by NIC,
Inc., Tennessee’s eGovernment Partner since 2000.
