BestPrep today announced it will honor TCF Financial Corporation (NYSE:TCB) with its Humanitarian of the Year Award for its 20-year commitment to educating Minnesota students about business, careers, and finances through BestPrep’s programming. The prestigious award will be presented to TCF’s president and CEO, Craig Dahl, at the annual Birdies for BestPrep gala at the Radisson Blu Mall of America in Bloomington on Saturday, February 11.

“Long before financial education for our youth became a mainstream concern, TCF was working to ensure that students understood the importance of managing their money wisely,” said BestPrep president and CEO, Bob Kaitz. “We are indebted to TCF for their long-term commitment to educating Minnesota students and we are delighted to recognize their commitment with our Humanitarian of the Year Award.”

“We are grateful that BestPrep is recognizing us for supporting their financial education initiatives,” said Craig Dahl, TCF’s president and CEO. “Supporting BestPrep has been a rewarding experience for our team members and it is one way we continue to invest in our communities. We’re pleased to improve the lives of students as they make financial and career decisions throughout their lives.”

During two decades, TCF has supported BestPrep with more than $250,000 in donations. Team members have served as online mentors, hosted educators in job shadows, and participated in classroom discussions and presentations to support financial education curricula. As Resident Business Leaders, business plan judges and mock interviewers, TCF team members offer encouragement and challenges to students during BestPrep’s week-long Minnesota Business Venture summer program. Additionally, TCF’s senior vice president and director of Minnesota Human Resources, Viane Hoefs, has served on the BestPrep Board of Directors since 2007 and previously chaired the Birdies for BestPrep Planning Committee.

Beyond its support of BestPrep’s financial education initiatives, TCF’s commitment to financial education includes the TCF Financial Scholars Program for high school students and the TCF Financial Fitness Program for adults. For two consecutive years, TCF earned the Nasdaq Innovation in Financial Education Award, which recognizes the scale and reach of their financial education initiatives and the engagement of the TCF team in supporting the program through mentoring and teaching.
