Partnership significantly expands Humana’s footprint in New York City
by providing Humana Medicare members access to the provider’s four
hospitals as well as the opportunity to improve quality outcomes and
population health
NEW YORK -- (Business Wire)
Humana
Inc. (NYSE: HUM), a leading health and well-being company with 2.4
million Medicare Advantage members, and NYUPN Clinically Integrated
Network, LLC (NYUPN) announced today a new partnership aimed at
improving the quality of and access to health care for the New York City
area’s Medicare population.
NYUPN consists of NYU
Langone Medical Center, one of the nation’s premier centers for
excellence in clinical care, biomedical research, and medical education,
and the University Physicians’ Network, comprised of clinical faculty
and voluntary physicians affiliated with NYU Langone.
The agreement, effective Jan. 1, 2015, will enable Humana Medicare
Advantage members to receive in-network care at NYU Langone’s extensive
ambulatory care network and its four hospitals, including Tisch
Hospital, its flagship acute care facility; Rusk Rehabilitation; the
Hospital for Joint Diseases, one of only five hospitals in the nation
dedicated to orthopedics and rheumatology; and Hassenfeld Children’s
Hospital, a comprehensive pediatric hospital supporting a full array of
children's health services across the medical center.
The new agreement will include all Humana members enrolled in the
company’s 2015 Medicare Advantage plans.
“We’re thrilled to embark on this partnership with one of the premier
academic medical centers in the country and to have them become such an
integral part of our New York City health care delivery system,” said
Humana Northeast President for Senior Products Alexander Clague. “Our
mutual commitment to quality and the patients we collectively serve will
result in new and efficient ways to deliver high quality health care
services through our Medicare Advantage program.”
In 2014, Humana began offering a selection of Medicare Advantage plans
for Medicare-eligible individuals residing in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten
Island, and Nassau County. During the Medicare Open Enrollment period
that begins in Oct.15, Humana will also offer 2015 Medicare Advantage
plans in Manhattan.
“NYU Langone shares our focus on patient-centered, integrated care that
emphasizes prevention, chronic care and improved quality outcomes,” said
Lisa LaCarrubba-Blondin, M.D., a board-certified family physician who
serves as Humana’s Regional Medical Director for the Northeast Region.
“Together, we hope to have a significant impact on the health and
well-being of our Medicare population.”
With the new agreement, people in New York City who are eligible for
Medicare and select Humana’s Medicare Advantage plans during the
Medicare annual election period, which runs from Oct. 15 through Dec. 7,
2014, can begin receiving in-network services at all NYU Langone
inpatient and outpatient facilities beginning Jan.1, 2015.
About NYUPN Clinically Integrated Network
NYUPN is the clinically integrated network (CIN) of University
Physicians Network (UPN) and NYU Langone Medical Center (NYU Langone).
This unique alignment brings together over 1,700 physicians of the UPN
and NYU Langone hospitals to collaborate in implementing nationally
recognized standards for patient-centered, high quality, cost-efficient
healthcare delivery. All physicians and hospitals use electronic medical
records (EMR) that are connected to a network wide health information
exchange (HIE), facilitating timely exchange of clinical information.
NYUPN will also serve as a vehicle to negotiate and successfully execute
health care contracts based on new and emerging payment models that
reward high quality and cost-efficient care.
