AUGUSTA, Maine -- (Business Wire)
The Maine Department of Professional and Financial Regulation has
enhanced its Professional Licensing service (www.maine.gov/online/licensing).
The online service is available to licensees from three State
Departments, covering 48 different regulatory entities, such as the
Electrical Board and the Fire Marshal's Office.
Enhancements to the online professional licensing service include:
-
A simple step-by-step process tailored to the specific license
application or renewal type.
-
The ability to update selective licensing information outside of the
normal renewal transaction.
-
The ability to upload and attach required documentation. This feature
reduces the need for additional follow up by the applicant and creates
a more efficient licensing process.
“The licensing system has been an effective tool for agencies and
staff,” remarked Anne L. Head, Commissioner of the Department of
Professional and Financial Regulation. “The enhanced online service
significantly cuts down on the time and paperwork involved in processing
these licenses and, in some cases, removes manual intervention
altogether.”
When a user completes a new application the system creates a pending
license record and notifies the applicable agency of its arrival. If
required, the agency would then perform any other pre-licensing
procedures, such as background checks, review of identification
paperwork, etc. In cases where no manual work is required, the online
system can convert the pending license record to an active license,
resulting in a fully automated process. The service is available 24
hours a day, 7 days a week and accepts Visa and MasterCard as payment,
or users can select to mail in a check along with licensing documents.
All licensees receive an email confirmation when the transaction is
complete.
The Professional Licensing service, which launched in 2001, is available
to licensees renewing one of 215 different license types within three
departments: the Department of Professional and Financial Regulation;
the Department of Public Safety; and the Department of Health and Human
Services. To date, 435,000 users have completed their licensing or
permitting application or renewal through the online service.
The online licensing service was developed through a partnership with
InforME, the state’s e-government portal provider, and the Department’s
Agency Licensing Management System (ALMS). The online licensing service
is a part of the growing suite of online business services available on
Maine.gov.
