RICHMOND, Va. -- (Business Wire)

The Commission on Virginia Alcohol Safety Action Program (VASAP) has partnered with Virginia Interactive (VI) to launch a new Payment Solution that allows citizens to make payments to VASAP online. VASAP offers specifically developed educational programs that respond to the needs of each Virginia locality and improves highway safety by decreasing the incidence of driving under the influence of alcohol and other drugs. VASAP is an offender-funded system requiring each offender to pay fees for participation in the program.

The Payment Solution allows citizens to make payments to VASAP using their personal computer or mobile device at anytime from anywhere. Transactions are processed immediately and citizens can instantly print a receipt and receive receipts via email for their records.

“We are excited to offer this new innovative payment solution to VASAP and their clients,” said Travis Sarkees, Virginia Interactive General Manager. “Our mission is to make government interactions simpler and more convenient for our partners and the citizens of the Commonwealth. The VASAP payment solution helps achieve this goal by providing efficiencies for both VASAP and the citizens it serves.”

VASAP provides education and treatment to more than 70,000 offenders annually. The program also provides monitoring and probation services for DUI or other habitual offenders, and manages the Ignition Interlock Program for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Prior to the Payment Solution pilot, all payments for program services were required to be made in person at one of the 24 local VASAP offices. In the first two months of the pilot program, over 20% of payments were being made through the Payment Solution online, helping to reduce the number of citizens that have to stand in line at the local offices.

Provided by Virginia Interactive (VI) through a self-funded model with no upfront costs to the Commission, the new Payment Solution is reducing costs, saving valuable time, and allowing the Commission’s staff/employees to concentrate on other tasks supporting the VASAP mission.

“The VASAP online payment system has proven to be an immediate time-saver for local programs,” stated Angela Coleman, Executive Director for the Commission on VASAP. “It has enhanced office financial procedures while providing clients the added benefit of making payments on their schedule.”

With benefits of the pilot project becoming quickly transparent, VASAP is extending the Payment Solution to all local offices throughout the Commonwealth over the next three months. The VASAP Payment Solution is available now for a number of localities at www.vasap.state.va.us.
