JACKSON, Miss. -- (Business Wire)
The state of Mississippi took home a fifth-place overall win in the Center
for Digital Government’sGovernment
Experience Awards. After 20 years as the Best of the Web Awards, the
Center updated the competition this year to recognize the achievements
and best practices of states, cities, and counties that have gone to the
Web and beyond to radically improve the experience of government and
push the boundaries of how citizen services are delivered.
“It is an honor to be recognized again by the prestigious Center for
Digital Government in their first annual Government Experience Awards,
especially for our advances in citizen to government interactions,” said
Dr. Craig Orgeron, Executive Director of the Mississippi Department of
Information Technology Services. “Our continual technological evolution
and introduction of new emerging technologies represents a powerful
shift in the way Mississippi has begun approaching the user experience.
We look forward to further enhancing our government experience, offering
citizens more personalized and integrated electronic services.”
Mississippi’s government experience, delivered through the award-winning
ms.gov, includes connected technologies like virtual reality, a chatbot,
and digital voice assistance directly to aid citizens in their growing
online relationship with the state of Mississippi.
- Chatbot – The state of Mississippi’s first chatbot, Missi,
provides support for over 200 commonly searched for inquiries, making
government support available 24/7. Since the June launch, Missi has
helped answer over 2,100 questions, further improving the availability
of ms.gov’s citizen support.
- Virtual Capitol Tour – The augmented reality powered tour of
the Mississippi State Capitol transports viewers directly inside the
capitol with exclusive access to six historic areas. Users can access
the Virtual
Capitol Tour directly from ms.gov using a VR headset, mobile
device, or computer.
- Digital Voice Assistant – The Ask
Mississippi Amazon Alexa skill has been enhanced with traffic
alerts from the MS Department of Transportation and top local
Mississippi news. Users can ask, “Alexa, ask Mississippi if there are
any traffic alerts in my area,” and “Alexa, ask Mississippi for my
local news.” These new enhancements complement the existing Ask
Mississippi platform that allows residents direct voice access to
government simply by asking Mississippi phrases including, “Alexa, ask
Mississippi when my driver’s license expires,” “Hey Alexa, ask
Mississippi, what is the phone number to the Department of Revenue,”
and “Alexa, ask Mississippi for a state fact.”
The Center for Digital Government has repeatedly recognized Mississippi
as having one of the best state websites in the country, placing top 10
in the Best of the Web Awards in 2012 and 2013, fourth in 2015, third in
2016, and now fifth in 2017 at the Government Experience Awards.
