BENSALEM, Pa. -- (Business Wire)
Law
Offices of Howard G. Smith announces that it is investigating
potential claims on behalf of investors of Consumer Portfolio Services,
Inc. (“CPSS” or the “Company”) (NASDAQ:CPSS) concerning possible
violations of federal securities laws. The investigation is focused on
the Company’s operations and financial prospects.
CPSS operates in the United States as a specialty finance company that
purchases and services retail automobile contracts originated by
franchised automobile dealers and select independent dealers in the sale
of new and used automobiles, light trucks and passenger vans. The
Company provides an alternative source of financing for dealers, to
facilitate sales to customers who might not be able to obtain financing
from commercial banks, credit unions or other finance companies. The
investigation is related to the Company’s disclosure in a regulatory
filing that on January 14, 2015, the Company received a civil
investigative subpoena from the U.S. Department of Justice, pursuant to
the Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery, and Enforcement Act of
1989. According the Company, the subpoena directs CPSS “to produce
documents relating to our subprime automotive finance and related
securitization activities.”
