WEST TRENTON, N.J. -- (Business Wire)

The New Jersey State Police announced today a new online service that simplifies the process for requesting background checks for noncriminial justice licensing or employment. The online version of the SBI 212B Form (Name Check Only Request for Criminal History Record Information for a Noncriminal Justice Purpose) is accessible using the following URL: https://www.njportal.com/njsp/212b/

This is the latest in a series of online initiatives by the New Jersey State Police to bring more of its services to citizens electronically. In this case, employers, licensing authorities, volunteer organizations, and private detectives can securely submit background check requests and pay online. If approval of the background check is required by the subject, the system will automatically notify the person via email. The subject can either approve or deny the request electronically. After successful payment and necessary approvals, if required, the information is available to the state police for review and processing. Additionally, the requester will receive email notifications as the status changes.

The online SBI 212B Form is mobile-friendly and can be completed on any device, at any time.

This service is a product of a partnership between the state of New Jersey and the New Jersey Information Division of NICUSA, Inc., which is the official digital government partner of the state of New Jersey, helping New Jersey government entities Web-enable their information services.
