JACKSON, Miss. -- (Business Wire)

The Office of the Mississippi State Treasurer now provides the option for possessors of unclaimed property to pay online using the new Holder ePayment System. This payment system allows businesses, government entities, financial institutions, and other organizations to process and securely transfer funds online directly to the Mississippi State Treasurer’s Unclaimed Property Division. According to Mississippi law, any unclaimed property must be escheated after a five year dormancy. By making it easier for businesses to report and transfer money to the Treasurer, Mississippi citizens will be able to find and claim their property quickly online.

“One in five Mississippians has unclaimed property,” stated Treasurer Lynn Fitch. “Our goal with this new online system is to leverage today’s technology to put unclaimed property back in the hands of its owners more efficiently and much faster. It has always been my hope to return as much as possible of the newly reported dollars back to the rightful owners. Now, only much faster.”

Unclaimed property can be anything from forgotten utility deposits, bank accounts, stocks and bonds, and unclaimed inheritances. If you are a holder of unclaimed property or to find out if you have unclaimed property, please visit the Office of the Mississippi State Treasurer online at www.treasurerlynnfitch.com.
