AUGUSTA, Maine -- (Business Wire)
Maine’s Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife is pleased to announce
that the Maine Boat Registration Renewal service (https://www.maine.gov/online/boat/)
has reached a new milestone adding its 200th participating municipality.
The City of Calais went live with the online service on May 16.
“The City of Calais is excited to offer the online boat registration
renewal service to our boat owners,” said James Porter, City Manager.
“The service allows users to register whenever and wherever it is
convenient for them without the hassle of driving to the city hall
during regular business hours or waiting in line.”
Boat Registration Renewal is an eCommerce service that allows citizens
to conduct business with municipal and state government in one seamless
online transaction. The service launched in 2009 with just over 100
municipal participants and has since been enthusiastically embraced by
Mainers and non-residents who moor their boats in Maine, with more than
71,000 boats registered online to date. While municipal participation in
Boat Registration Renewal is optional, the service is currently offered
by cities and towns from York County to Aroostook County, with
populations ranging from Glenwood Plantation's three citizens to more
than 66,000 in the City of Portland.
"Through Boat Registration Renewal online, residents and non-residents
who boat in Maine can renew registrations and pay their municipal excise
taxes online, 24 hours a day, seven days a week," commented IF&W's
Director of Licensing and Registration, Bill Swan. "This availability
increases compliance with state and local registration laws and is a
great convenience to boating enthusiasts throughout the state.”
Boat Registration Renewal was developed at no cost to taxpayers and was
created in partnership with the state's digital government services
provider, InforME and Maine’s Office of Information Technology. The
service is part of the popular suite of online services currently
available through Maine.gov (http://www.Maine.gov).
Boat Registration Renewal may be accessed through http://www.maine.gov/ifw/index.html,
the Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife site for online services.
Municipal officials who would like more information about participating
in Boat Registration Renewal are encouraged to contact InforME directly
